Ore
Alice-Andrea Ewing
Ore is one of a series of mobiles developed by Alice in response to local estuaries and river maps. The estuary ‘Ore’ lies alongside Orford in Suffolk, the final opening up of the water known also as the Alde which runs past Snape Maltings. Drawing on inspiration from the historical figure John Craske, these mobile ‘river maps’ are a personal rendering of the waterways, translatable only by the artist.
Constructed from wax, wood and reeds, the work has been cast ‘directly’ using an adaptation of the Italian or Renaissance Lost Wax process to create a unique design.
The work secures to a bronze plate which can be directly screwed into a ceiling or solid support. Due to Alice’s process each edition will have its own unique variations.
The bronze patina of this sculpture will be affected by the elements, we encourage you to enjoy this beautiful natural process – it won’t affect the structural integrity of the piece. Periodic re-application of black wax will help protect the surface as will the occasional ‘buff’ with a dry cotton cloth.
