Alice’s bronze pieces form an integral part of our first sculpture collection. The British artist was drawn to working with Them Outdoors because of the idea of presenting her work outside for the first time. “Bronze has its own reaction to the elements, works are entirely transformed by a life outside” she says. “This in itself is an exciting prospect.
Our Designers
Them Outdoors is proud to work with the following amazing creatives:
Bias Editions
Over the years Olivia has used her distinctive design language to create everything from slip dresses to candlesticks, glasses – and now hardware. Throughout, her eye has always been on making modern, classic pieces that are uncomplicated, unfussy – and entirely distinct.
Daniel Bradley
Daniel regularly teams up with architects and designers as part of his practice. For his first Them Outdoors piece, Daniel called on one such designer; long term friend and collaborator George Townsin of interior design studio Studio George, and the pair came up with the concept for the Staddle Table.
Daniel Hayden
The ‘Tipsy’ lounge chair is Daniel’s first piece of garden furniture, made exclusively for Them Outdoors. A keen gardener, Daniel – who’s work is usually focused on interiors – jumped at the chance to create a piece of work for an outdoor setting.
Finbar Ward
British artist Finbar Ward has worked in the visual arts for 10 years, showing his work internationally and here in the UK.But it was a five year stint working as a gardener that encouraged him to start exploring the role that sculpture plays within landscapes. “I’d seen that the contribution of sculpture to garden spaces is often an afterthought” he says.
Fred Clark
Fred Clark trained at the Royal Drawing School and since graduating in 2013 his work has evolved to include sculpture as well as drawing. “My latest foray into furniture [for Them Outdoors] has been something I have always wanted to do” says Fred. “Some of my favourite sculptures are objects from the British Museum, and for the past 30,000 years humans have been depicting and modelling animal forms, often to decorate functional or sacred objects. To make functional, sculptural furniture feels like the most natural thing in the world to me.”
Jack Ritson
Jack’s cleft oak planters were designed exclusively for Them Outdoors, in collaboration with founder Tabi Jackson Gee. They featured as part of an installation in Berdoulat in spring 2024 and their character and unusual outline has already made them a firm favourite amongst clients.
Jaclyn Pappalardo
Jaclyn is taking her aluminium furniture and planters outside for the first time with Them Outdoors, in a partnership which she sees as an “opportunity to start a dialogue with landscape design.” Exploring techniques such as metal inflating, she builds on the recognisable profiles of existing industrial materials to create pieces that are timeless. Her work in aluminium and stainless steel is perfectly suited to a garden environment.
Julia Clarke
North London based willow and ceramic artist Julia Clarke takes inspiration from the natural world. Her ceramic pieces – some of which are shown for the first time with Them Outdoors – are a brilliant addition to an outdoor setting, with their vivid glazes bringing plant colours into greater focus and their abstract forms echoing the organic shapes around them.
Lewis Kemmenoe
Lewis says his practice is “driven by a desire to use materials and forms that in someway reflect the organic material of which it is made.” Lewis’ partnership with Them Outdoors marks the first time he has created pieces specifically for the outside world; and his Leaf Sconce is a wonderful expression of his own unique practices and experimental approach to materials.
Mel Campion
One of only a handful of shell artists working in the UK today, Mel Campion – who is based between Oxfordshire and Anglesey in North Wales – says she has “always been a collector of beautiful things.” And what more beautiful things to collect than shells.
Olivia Gonsalves
Olivia – who has recently graduated from London Metropolitan University with First Class Honours in Furniture and Product Design – first came to the attention of Them Outdoors when she designed the ‘Nexus’ chairs for Miria Harris’ award winning RHS Chelsea Flower Show garden in 2024.
Sam Whyman
Sam takes the fine craft skills associated with artisanal fine furniture and applies them to a contemporary design aesthetic. “Primarily my furniture tends to be made for indoor use” he explains, “but I’m outside as much as possible – helping my partner in our small garden or allotment, or out trail running, or away camping in our van. It’s nice to have the opportunity to make some work that reflects our love for the outdoors.”
Six Dots Design
The founder of North London based Six Dots Design, furniture designer and maker Joseph Ellwood creates highly sculptural and often unpredictable, irregular-shaped pieces of everyday furniture.
Studio George
For her inaugural Them Outdoors piece, interior designer George Townsin has worked with long-time collaborator and furniture maker Daniel Bradley. The pair have worked together on various projects over the years, producing beautiful bespoke kitchens and other joinery, as well as creating thoughtfully crafted pieces of furniture, for clients – and just for fun.
Tabi Jackson Gee
Tabi is a garden designer, writer and the founder of Them Outdoors. Tabi has commissioned various pieces for Them Outdoors, working closely with some of the artists to provide loose briefs and creative direction. She also co-designed the Cleft Oak Planters with carpenter and forester Jack Ritson.
The Daybed Company
The Day Bed Company was co-founded by Freddy Williams and his partner Chippy, who run the business from their garden workshop in East Sussex. Growing up, Freddy’s father had ‘charpoys’ (the Indian name for daybed, loosely meaning four legs) in their garden, which Freddy describes “using everyday and being a talking point amongst visitors. With these memories in mind I was keen to develop what my father had started, and learn the traditional weaving technique.”
Tom Faulkner
Tom Faulkner’s signature qualities are distinctive silhouettes, clean lines, and perfect proportions. “I believe in the richness of visual simplicity” says the designer.
Tom Hatfield
Currently Head of Design and Production at Goldfinger, Tom is a practical and intuitive designer whose work is shaped by his 15 years of experience in the industry. Tom’s Them Outdoors offering – the Blooming Bench – is a charming, modern and highly functional piece that reflects his wider processes; rooted in thoughtful exploration, focusing on the honest use of materials and details to elevate the final product.
Tom Nicholson Smith
“I don’t like things to stand out too much, or be too ostentatious” says Tom, who’s body of public work is dotted around his home county of Surrey. For Them Outdoors, Tom has created ten individual charred stools from one of his favourite materials to work with; Cedar of Lebanon.
