Daniel’s second piece for Them Outdoors is a playful interpretation of a French classic, its curves inspired by the shapes of traditional bistro furniture.

The Happy As A Clam dining chair, with its shell-like profile, continues Daniel’s exploration of how shape, proportion and placement can instil an object with personality – and in doing so, provoke an emotional reaction in the person using it.

The dining chair follows in the footsteps of the Bristol-based furniture maker’s much-loved Tipsy lounge chair. Both chairs, he says, “celebrate the way in which, seemingly out of nowhere, gardening has become a huge source of joy in my life.”

Like all wooden furniture, it is best covered or stored indoors over winter to maximise its lifespan. Oak is a weather resistant timber and the chair has been coated in a UV-resistant oil to provide further protection. The piece will silver beautifully over time, so please embrace that natural process.

To keep the chair in the best possible shape, simply reapply a thin coat of Osmo UV-Protection Oil Satin Matt 410 Clear every three to four years.
