Furniture Designer and Maker
Furniture designer and maker Joseph Ellwood creates highly sculptural and often unpredictable, irregular-shaped pieces of everyday furniture.
Joe founded Six Dots in 2020, after graduating from the University of Bath with a degree in architecture. During lockdown, Joe worked for a cabinet designer and maker, learning professional craftsmanship.
In 2021, he showcased his work at Design London during the London Design Festival, bringing six chairs and an arcade claw machine. The same year, Joe started a master’s degree in architecture at the Royal College of Art.
During a study trip to Villa André Bloc, Joe was inspired by Bloc’s whimsical structures, realising the joy in creating objects that satisfy the soul, not just solve problems. With this new philosophy, Joe designed and launched Six Dots’ first full collection, ‘Contemporary Vanity’.
Joe toured the collection on the roof of his VW Golf, and the work was featured in Sight Unseen and House & Garden. Joe was also named one of Wallpaper Magazine’s ‘Future Icons’ of design in 2022.
Six Dots Design have also collaborated with Rimowa, H&M, Ikea and Shoreditch Arts Club, and in January 2024, they participated in their first show at ‘Collectible’ in Belgium, where their Handcraft Spacecraft table was named a collectors’ pick.
